SIDKO and Hygiene Program

Access to clean and safe water, as well as maintaining proper menstrual hygiene, are two of the basic needs that often remain unmet in schools of rural Bangladesh, leading to absenteeism and various other health problems. The prevalence of harmful stigma around menstruation in society negatively affects the dignity, confidence, and reproductive health of adolescent girls. IFB implements a safe water and menstrual hygiene project in Chuadanga and Meherpur districts to provide arsenic-free, safe drinking water for school students and staff by installing a SIDKO water purification plant. Under this project, IFB also upgrades the existing toilet facility and provides menstrual hygiene education sessions to promote hygiene practices for adolescent girls, supporting rural adolescent girls by fostering awareness and helping them to grow into confident and informed young women.
